Letters as submitted to www.thomastonctdems.org:
To the Voters of Thomaston, CT:
I am writing this as a letter of recommendation for Cesare J. (Skip) Del Vaglio for First Selectman. A strange thing for me to do, for if it wasn’t for Skip I probably wouldn’t be recommending any of the hundreds of students that I have written these letters for over the last 25 years. Very simply, working with Skip at McGraw-Hill Book Company changed the direction of my life.
While at McGraw-Hill Skip shared all of his knowledge with me without hesitation, why? Simple, because he knew it was good for the company and me as well. Skip sees the bigger picture, quickly and succinctly and understands the basic true management principle: surround yourself with competent people. Be confident in your own skills and know what you don’t know, just be honest and work hard.
After 25 years of friendship we still talk and he is there whenever I need some help. We literally bumped into each other at McGraw-Hill after I left the company when I was going to a meeting in the building regarding something else. It was of course like the 8 years had never passed.
I bumped into him again at a MacWorld technology conference, again after a few years. We chatted quickly and he just casually asked if I wanted to meet a friend of his? It was John Sculley, he had just taken over at Apple.
Always willing to connect people whom he thought had something in common, people whom he thought could do something good together. I once needed an Apple monitor for a presentation I was giving to a group at McGraw-Hill. At the time basically nothing existed that could fit the bill. Within an hour a huge glass monitor was set-up with just a phone call direct to Apple HQ in NYC.
Loyal, honest, caring, thoughtful and respectful of everyone no matter who they are or what their position. Someone who I hope I will know for the next 25 years.

To the voters of Thomaston:
It is with pride and pleasure that I endorse my brother, Skip Del Vaglio, for the office of First Selectman of Thomaston. During his years at Thomaston High School and Fairfield University, as well as in the business world, I have observed him to be a truly engaged individual who always gives 100% effort. Whether in business, sports, theater, or civic projects, his energy and determination are admirable and effective. Skip has years of experience serving Thomaston on various boards and committees and is familiar with the workings of our town.
While employed in responsible positions early in his career, both in our family business (The Thomaston Express) and later in the corporate world (McGraw-Hill in New York), he honed his skills as a leader, communicator and hands-on problem-solver. Skip presently runs a successful small business in Waterbury, where he also serves the community through the Waterbury Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Skip Del Vaglio is the common sense kind of person we need to ensure the future economic stability of Thomaston. I ask that you give him your vote Tuesday, November 8th and afford him the opportunity to focus his energy and expertise on the town we have all chosen as our home.
Thank you.

Letters from the October 27, 2011 Edition of the Town Times:
Supports DelVaglio
To The Editor:
Though a long-time resident of Waterbury and presently of Southbury, I was pleased to learn that Cesare J. “Skip” Del Vaglio of Thomaston is a candidate for first selectman of that lovely town.
As a faculty member of Fairfield University, from the day the school opened through my retirement, I had the opportunity to see countless students study and observe the great thoughts, principles and philosophies of history and political science.
Skip DelVaglio is one of the few who not only studied and observed, but who applied, in life, family and work, the important values, standards and energy he grasped as a student.
Skip is a man of strong character, sharp mind and wit and willingness to act. As a professor, there is no greater pleasure than to observe one who lives values. I support him in his desire to bring his energy and values to town government in Thomaston.

Says DelVaglio will address the many issues facing residents
To the Editor:
Skip DelVaglio is running for First Selectman in Thomaston. Over the last several months Skip has visited the homes of over 1,300 residents who shared their concerns about issues ranging from education and taxes to the new “lights out” program in our neighborhoods.
Skip will lead our town by working with residents to address the many issues before us. Skip has been serving the town for years as a member of the Economic Development Commission, the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals. He has been working to bring new businesses to support our tax base and he knows that a mix of industry and services is vital to sustain our town.
Please vote for Skip DelVaglio and Bruce Barrett and the entire Democratic team on Tuesday November 8.

Believes Thomaston ‘deserves better’ than Mone
To The Editor:
Passing through town Saturday morning, I noticed a man waving at the passing cars. Getting closer, I recognized the man as Ed Mone, our first selectman. At first I thought he was waving good-bye, but quickly realized he was soliciting votes.
I have been living in the dark for over a year. I can tell you, “I don’t like it.” Ed’s administration boasts of saving “tons of money” by taking down the street lights. I say, “baloney.” The citizens of Thomaston deserve better from our elected leaders. The liability of having the town in darkness is enormous compared to the minimal savings this action provided.
In my conversations with Skip DelVaglio, he assures me he will do all that he can to light up the town after he is elected.
Therefore Skip has my vote on November 8 and all my support. I hope the good people of Thomaston will feel the same.

Letters from the October 21, 2011 Edition of the Thomaston Express:
SUPPORT DICK BENFER ON ELECTION DAY
Our Democratic candidate for First Selectman, Skip DelVaglio, has commented on how strong a community we have because of the number of people who have grown up in Thomaston and stayed to raise their own families or left and returned to do the same. They love the community and serve it well.
We also have talented people who have moved here and become very involved in our community. Among these is my friend, Dick Benfer. After graduating from Ohio University and earning a Master's Degree at Yale, he served a distinguished 34 year career in hospital administration.
After retiring Dick and his wife Lois moved to Thomaston to be closer to their family. He has become really active in town, coaching the 5th and 6th grade basketball teams, refereeing the Jr/Sr high school basketball teams and serving as a trustee on the Library Board.
He is an avid reader who understands how important a strong library is to the town. He has the skills and background that will enable him to help lead the library through service on the Board in these very difficult financial times.
Please join me in voting for Dick and the entire Democratic ticket on Nov. 8.

LETTER OF SUPPORT
I would like to express my support for Democratic candidate Skip DelVaglio for the office of First Selectman of the town of Thomaston. Skip was born and bred in Thomaston and is committed to our community. He is a successful businessman who has dedicated his life to improving the climate for small businesses.
Skip has invested countless hours working on behalf of our town. He has shown leadership on the local boards he has served, including the Economic Development Commission, the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Assessment Appeals.
Skip has proven himself a leader in the business world as well. He has years of printing and publishing experience as CEO of Northwest Publishing Corporation of Litchfield, a company that published The Thomaston Express and Connecticut Western News community weekly newspapers. Skip was also employed at publishing giant McGraw-Hill for 16 years, rising from production coordinator to Director of Advanced Manufacturing Technology. He was awarded the McGraw-Hill Entrepreneur award for his efforts in improving print delivery times and reducing costs.
He acquired Rollins Printing and Publishing Inc. in 2005 and relocated his modern printing operation to its current location at 150 Grand Street, Waterbury. Rollins Printing was recognized as 2010 Business of the Year by the Waterbury Neighborhood Council in 2010.
Skip will bring his business expertise to our community as we look to build a brighter economic future for our town. He will bring his knowledge of our town gained through decades of commitment to our local institutions. And we know he will bring his heart to the office and serve each citizen with great dedication and spirit. With his talents in mind, I endorse Skip DelVaglio for the office of First Selectman.

Letters from the October 21, 2011 Edition of the Waterbury Republican-American:
DEL VAGLIO IS THE MAN FOR THOMASTON
I support Democrat Skip Del Vaglio for Thomaston first select¬man. I have known Skip since our grade school days at Grove Street School. He has always been a team player. This personal characteristic is very important for a first selectman because he or she is charged with working with a diverse group of interests to forge a consensus that will keep Thomaston moving forward.
Skip has always been an honest and dedicated volunteer, working to improve our town on boards and commissions. He is an excellent listener, and thoroughly investigates problems and searches for viable solutions.
Please join me on Nov. 8, and vote for Skip Del Vaglio for Thomaston first selectman.
Thomas Scully
