Our schools are our future. Thomaston Democrats consistently nominate candidates who will always advocate to strengthen our school system and prioritize the needs of the students first. The Board of Education election this year is more important than ever, and our candidates Sarah and Beth need your support.




Rebecca Guay Shypinka

Previous Offices Held/Community Involvement:  Six years previous experience on the Board of Education, including serving as Chairwoman.

Personal:  Resident of Thomaston for over 25 years, three children all education in the Thomaston Public School system.

Employment: Nearly 30 years at Aetna/CVS as a Sr. Business Analyst

Community Involvement: Memebr of the Thomaston Education Enrichment Fund, Thomaston Bears Booster Club, Fire Department Carnival Volunteer.

Sarah Ethier

Previous offices held: Board of Education (2019 - present)

Community Involvement: Soccer coach with the Thomaston Soccer club

Personal: Married to her husband Steve for 9 years who currently serves as a Physical Education teacher. Together, they have two children Carter and Jackson, who are 8 and 6 years old, respectfully.

Education: Sarah attended Thomaston Public Schools from Kindergarten through her graduation from high school. She then received her Psychology degree from the University of Connecticut.

Employment: Sarah has been employed at EdAdvance HeadStart for the past eleven years. During this time, she has taught in the classroom and worked with families as a Family Service Coordinator. In her current position, she works with a collaboration classroom in a local school. 

Candidate Statement: I am seeking re-election for the Board of Education because I love being involved in the education of Thomaston. I have served on the policy committee and Ad Hoc committee for improving education in our schools. I seek to keep our schools achieving academic goals and climbing educationally while keeping in mind the taxpayers and our budget.
